Realtime a Success!
On February 19-22, FCA’s worldwide staff gathered for the eighth Realtime, a much-anticipated biennial event held this year at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Florida. Two thousand five hundred people, including staff and international partners from 49 U.S. states and 32 countries, attended the four-day celebration to enjoy faith, fellowship and fun.The event was emceed by sports broadcaster Kristen Ledlow, a longtime NBA reporter. Attendees enjoyed vision-casting from FCA President/CEO Shane Williamson; music by Life.Church Worship; powerful messages from Christian Newsome, Derwin L. Gray, and Graham Daniels; and inspiring testimonies from a variety of speakers and sports personalities. As the global presence of FCA continues to expand, Realtime is a vital moment that unites our staff in pursuit of our mission to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.
From June 11 to July 19, the world will unite for the FIFA World Cup — one of the world’s largest sporting events, engaging more than five billion people. FCA has partnered up with Cru, Athletes in Action and dozens of other ministries in an initiative called Victory Beyond the Cup, which seeks to leverage this quadrennial global tournament by helping Christians begin meaningful Gospel conversations with others, connect across cultures and share the hope of Christ. This unique outreach aims to mobilize 10,000 churches and 100,000 Christians by providing tools to spark curiosity among others, break down barriers and facilitate relationships — all centered around the life-changing message of Jesus. South Global Capacity Conference
More than 50 of FCA’s African sports ministry partners and seven U.S. staff traveled to Mombasa, Kenya in November for the South Global Capacity Conference. The African leaders received training on leading Huddles, raising funds, creating ministry plans, being a healthy Gospel minister and more. In addition to the training, the team enjoyed daily worship, devotional time, cultural foods, and informal times of building relationships and having fun.
Many African countries share similar challenges and opportunities, and no one understands this better than these African leaders. Bringing them together for conferences like the South Global Capacity Conference is vital because of the relationships they build with their African counterparts and the conversations they have about best practices and the realities of ministry. Events like this conference help to forge strong bonds so they know they can call on any of their African or U.S. teammates during hard times.
FCA Korea hosted an FCA Night in Seoul to share and celebrate what God has done through the ministry. Four hundred individuals were in attendance, including current and potential donors, board members and supporting foundations. The atmosphere was dynamic and full of energy!
During the event, 80 supporters pledged their support, and funds were raised from both one-time gifts and recurring support. The most impactful part of the evening was testimonies from coaches, athletes and FCA staff whose lives have been transformed by God’s Word.
Dongwoo Shin, a 17-year-old soccer player, said, “I surrendered to Jesus when I first heard the Gospel clearly in my team Huddle. Then I was able to share the Gospel to my father before he took his last breath.”
Kichan Kang said, “I became a Christ follower through an FCA Huddle. FCA has kept me grounded in my faith.”
Fishers of Men and Women in SC
Up until last summer, Cameron Ling Ward, an FCA Outdoors Representative in Kingstree, South Carolina, had been denied any opportunity to start a campus Huddle at this Kingstree High School. Then she got an opportunity to take the school’s football team fishing at a nearby pond. Many players and coaches came out to enjoy a day on the water, including a fish fry and a devotional time. Ward explained what FCA is and how a campus Huddle could start with their help and leadership as student-athletes. At the end of the day, three boys offered to help, leading to FCA beginning a new Huddle at Kingstree High School last fall. This is the first Huddle in a public school in South Carolina’s Williamsburg County. Praise God for using the great outdoors for Kingdom work!
