In the desert of Southern California, the FCA program at Imperial High School has steadily grown into a dynamic and impactful ministry. While the program has been present for nearly a decade, the post-COVID-19 years marked a significant period of expansion and transformation under the leadership of Juan and Jen Benito (Imperial Valley Area Director and Part-Time Area Representative, respectively).

Currently, Imperial Valley FCA is leading 54 weekly Huddles, reaching 1,500 athletes per week with the Gospel. At Imperial High School, FCA hosts a team Huddle for every sport at every level, demonstrating its commitment to building relationships with athletes and coaches. In addition, FCA's lunch Huddles now attract more than 70 students per lunch.
“We’ve seen that at the beginning of the year, about 90 percent of our students are unchurched,” Jen Benito said. “Many of them come because a friend or a coach encouraged them to attend, and it’s in those relationships that we’ve seen God move.”

The Benitos attribute this growth to a combination of strong community partnerships and intentional relationship-building. Volunteers have been instrumental, dedicating time to attend sporting events, connecting with athletes, and mentoring student leaders. This hands-on involvement has had a ripple effect, as student leaders now take the initiative to lead devotionals for freshman and JV teams, creating a culture of peer-led growth and discipleship.
Support from the school’s administration, athletic director and coaching staff has also been key. They recognize the value FCA brings to the athletic program, fostering not only spiritual growth but also a sense of community and a greater purpose among student-athletes.
Looking ahead, FCA strives to continue developing student leaders throughout Imperial County who will inspire and influence their peers while expanding the program’s reach and impact.
