In My Voice: FCA Camp Impact

Published on July 01, 2021

Want to get an up-close look at the impact of FCA Camp? Throughout the summer, we’ll be sharing stories and testimonials from campers, Huddle leaders, staff, volunteers and coaches about their time at camp and how God showed up throughout their week.

Camp: Black Hills Sports Camp (Spearfish, S.D.)

Volleyball Huddle Leader - Chadron State College, Ne.

"My Dad’s an FCA leader and so I’ve come to camps for years."

What do you like about camp?

My favorite part is how super encouraging it is, the worship and being around people who aren’t scared to talk about Jesus. They're proud to show their faith.

How is it being a Huddle leader?

It’s been awesome. My girls have been great, and honestly they’ve pushed me in my faith by asking questions that probe me to think and examine my faith. I hope they’re getting as much out of their time as I am.

How has God been personal to you this week?

Being a Huddle leader, He’s showing me to trust Him. Yeah I can have the answers, but He’s showing me it’s not about how well I can present the Gospel but how He will shine through regardless of me and DESPITE me. To rely on Him instead of, "Yeah, I’ve been trained well with knowledge." The results aren’t on me and it’s always refreshing to remember.

Camp: Black Hills Sports Camp (Spearfish, S.D.)

Camper - Freshman from Belle Fouche, S.D.

"Camp is a great experience."

How have you seen God at work?

Even through all the heat this week, You can tell He’s here. You can see Him through everyone and how they act.

What would you say to someone who’s considering attending camp?

It’s the best experience you’ll probably ever have. All the fun people you get to meet, and you get better at your sport.

Gaige Z.

Camp: Black Hills Sports Camp (Spearfish, S.D.)

Camper - Senior from Pinedale, Wy.

"I've been coming to camp since 8th grade."

What brought you to FCA camp?

I live in a small town in Wyoming, and Rock Springs FCA invited us to come the first time. There were only two of us from the area that came. I came for basketball, but that wasn’t my thing. Then I started coming for soccer and found my spot. The soccer team is such a great, tight community.

This is my favorite part of the summer.

Why do you come to camp?

I come for God and the kids. At camp, I found a closeness with God. I was a believer but not close with Him. I had a Huddle leader, John, and he took me under his wing. It made a huge impact on me.

How do you see God in this week?

I see Him everywhere. I see God in the Huddle leaders, as they lead me, I get life advice from them as well as spiritual advice.

I brought 16 campers with me this year—me and my mom drove our group eight hours from Pinedale. We need to keep Camp alive and kids need to keep coming.
