FCA 101: Board Leadership

Published on April 16, 2020

FCA

FCA is led by individuals like you who give their time and talents to advance the Kingdom by serving on a leadership board. Board members expand FCA’s ministry with their experience, support and passion.

Some of the nation’s most well-respected and admired men and women (and some of the biggest names in sports) have served on an FCA board beginning with our Board of Trustees, but also the now hundreds of local boards. Critical to our more than 65-year history are the thousands of committed men and women who have volunteered as local board members. It takes leaders driven to support FCA at every level to fulfill our vision.

Board members engage their decision-making skills to move FCA in the right direction, keep it Christ-centered, and ensure it executes our Core Values. Are you driven to see coaches and athletes reached for Christ? Perhaps God is calling you to join a board.

BOARD TYPES

There are multiple types of boards leading FCA:

• LOCAL BOARDS: support the local staff through prayer, fundraising and discipleship.

• INTERNATIONAL BOARDS: govern our international teams.

• BOARD OF TRUSTEES: carries the fiduciary responsibility to oversee, monitor and direct the movement of FCA.

BOARD MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS

To serve on an FCA board of any type, we ask for:

• Personal belief in and commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

• Intentional prayer support for the ministry.

• Commitment to further FCA’s Vision and Mission.

• Abide by FCA’s Values: Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence.

• Agree and embrace FCA’s Statement of Faith and position statements.

BOARD ROLES

Each local board is led by a board chair who leads the board members

and meetings. The other members of the board join leadership teams,

which can include:

• MINISTRY TEAM: design, support and execute the ministry plan.

• DEVELOPMENT TEAM: form donor relationships by caring for hearts, communicating impact, and connecting supporters to the ministry.

• COMMUNICATIONS TEAM: develop and execute a communications plan for the ministry.

• EVENT TEAM: support and run highly effective events in the area.

Vice chair and finance roles are also often available on local boards.

DARLENE JOHNSON

FCA BOARD OF TRUSTEES CHAIR

“This is one of the most worthwhile areas of service I have ever been a part of in my entire life, and that is no exaggeration. My life has more meaning for the Kingdom of God because I’m part of this board. It’s such a valuable and valiant pursuit for anyone who feels called to serve on this platform where you can truly make a difference in helping to guide and direct others to the Lord Jesus Christ first, and then to equip them for the work of ministry and discipling others.”
