FCA Camp 2015: In My Voice, Week 5 Part 1

Published on August 24, 2015

FCA

Thousands of coaches and athletes are participating at an FCA Camp around the country and world this summer. Here are a few reflections from the hearts and minds of faces seen around camp.

Elyssa

Name: Elyssa
School: Cedarville University
Sport: Softball
Position: Huddle Leader/San Diego FCA Intern
Year: Sophomore

FCA: What’s made the biggest impact on you so far?

Elyssa: God’s power. Also identity. I’ve been caught up in doing, and being overconfident in that. I’m learning the importance of Christian community and a closeness to God, to be praying continually.

FCA: What are you hoping God shows you this week?

Elyssa: This week I want to see God’s love in my life and the lives of my girls. I want them to be overwhelmed by it and understand it. And for myself, I want my identity to be stable in that He loves me, and there’s nothing I can do to earn that love; it’s simply given.

FCA: What’s been your favorite camp moment?

Elyssa: Bonding with the girls. They’re so funny. And the program. It’s really good to worship with others, and to hear the spoken word. And Kristin [Stockfisch] really connected with pride and humility and love.

Name: Miguel
School: Santa Ana High School
Sport: Wrestling
Year: Senior

FCA: How did you hear about camp?

Miguel: Coach Tony (Gomez, Urban OC Area Representative).

FCA: What are you excited for this week?

Miguel: The competition and sports, and the worship at night. The evening program is really cool.

FCA: What does Undefeated mean to you?

Miguel: Not giving up, and playing like a champion.

FCA: What are you learning this week?

Miguel: Humility, loving yourself and others.

***

Name: Marlin
School: College of San Mateo
Sport: Wrestling
Year: Sophomore
Position: Huddle Leader

FCA: Why did you become a Huddle Leader this year?

Marlin: I was a camper before and missed the experience. I wanted to see what it was like to be at camp on the other side.

FCA: Is there a big difference?

Marlin: Responsibility!

FCA: What’s the biggest takeaway moment you’ve had?

Marlin: Seeing the kids and how interested they are in God. When they’re on, they’re latched on.

FCA: How do you hope God shows up big this week?

Marlin: I hope He teaches kids that He’s showing Himself to be big in their lives. Even if He shows that to just one kid, it’s a win.
