It had been a year since most leaders had seen each other, and some were completely new faces. Within the first few hours of the 2017 International Capacity Conference, the leaders quickly and comfortably fused as family, with interactions full of laughter along with the ease that makes one inclined to believe they’ve always known one another.

This is, after all, FCA. There are never strangers; only newfound spiritual siblings.

In just a few days’ time, Bangkok, Thailand became a gathering ground for 35 leaders from 22 countries for FCA International’s third annual International Capacity Conference. Held from February 19-23, it was full of unity, encouragement and teamwork as leaders joined together with the same purpose: to impact the lives of coaches and athletes for Jesus Christ.

Leaders were personally refreshed and challenged in their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, creating a drive to establish ministry direction for their own specific calls back home.

This year, deliberate time was carved into the schedule for more Huddle time enabling leaders to engage in honest and healthy ministry talk. They shared best practices and perceived challenges, while brainstorming how to best effectively hone sports ministry within their culture. Each Global Region Coordinator gave ministry updates from the past year to incite further excitement to focus on the future of FCA International.

Above all, the week centered on the miraculous life-change in the hearts of coaches and athletes across continents.

True to FCA’s 2017 ONE theme, the International Capacity Conference infused solidarity to stand together in recognition that the dreams planted in each of these leader’s hearts can indeed become a springboard for immeasurably more for the Kingdom.

For Dean, the conference squelched fears of the seemingly-overwhelming task of learning how to best utilize his time, purpose and heart in Barbados. “It’s no longer a scary vision,” he said. “Hearing about other people’s plans, I’m seeing that my vision could actually be reality.”

Another attendee added, “It helped me see that I’m not alone. There are brothers and sisters around the world who are doing sports ministry like me.”
