FCA Surf International Mission Report: North Africa
FCA SURF hosted the first surf camp in North Africa surfing history, in partnership with Surfing The Nations; a ministry based in Hawaii.
The free surf camp was held at in early December.
Designed to look and feel just like an FCA Surf Camp; the day camp reached out to local kids and teens.
The camp closed with an awards banquet in the evening where each camper received a large bag of goodies including an FCA Surf t-shirt, stickers, board-shorts, surf wax and many other assorted surfing items long with a trophy. An American evangelical surfing DVD in their Arabic language was given to them. These gifts were well received by everyone and were a blessing in building a bridge to this culture and community. Parents and siblings attended.
During our visit many friends were made within the surf culture and in the market places. Later in the week our crew braved large surf and cooler air and water temperatures in the low 60’s. This opportunity gave our team and the local surfers a great time of fellowship where as locals do not come across many traveling surfers outside their own environment.
Many onlookers stopped to watch our surfing crowd and some sat on the sea wall to watch the surfing. Comments like, “there is no surfing in North Africa”, were heard.
A visit to a few local orphanages to deliver clothing, food and medical supplies turned into fun with signing songs and playing - Duck Duck Goose with the children living there.
Next year we plan broaden the outreach with skateboarding. Reaching kids through sports isone of the best ways to make an impact for Christ in the nations that follow Islam. Please pray for North Africa and the surrounding region.
