Study No. 2: Faithfulness

Fellowship of Christian Athletes -

Greek = pistis. Conviction, constancy in reliance upon Christ for salvation.

Introduction: "Consider for a moment the absolute necessity of the faithfulness of God," said Jerry Bridges. "We are dependent upon his faithfulness for our final salvation (I Corinthians 1:8-9), for deliverance from temptation (I Corinthians 10:13), for ultimate sanctification (I Thessalonians 5:23), for the forgiveness of our sin (I John 1:9), for deliverance through times of suffering (I Peter 4:19) and for the fulfillment of our ultimate hope of eternal life (Hebrews 10:23). We can easily see that every aspect of the Christian life rests upon the faithfulness of God."

  1. Integrity, which is one of the connotations of the word faithfulness, is one of our four FCA values. How well are you living that out? How can one improve one’s integrity?
  2. Read Revelation 19:11, 21:5 and 22:6. What do those passages teach us about the character of Christ and the manner in which He will come again?
  1. Read II Timothy 2:13 and Proverbs 20:6. Why is the character of Christ so vital when it comes to our ability to remain faithful? How might the teachings of John 15 apply?
  1. Hananiah was a man of integrity who feared God more than most men do, according to Nehemiah 7:2. Who in this room, or in your wider circle of influence, is like Hananiah?
  2. One FCA Huddle has 20 members who enjoy studying the Bible. Another FCA Huddle has 150 members who enjoy playing games. In light of our tendency to equate numbers with success, what are some ways to test a Huddle’s faithfulness? How faithful is your Huddle?

Memory verse: "Love the Lord, all his saints! The Lord preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full." — Psalm 31:23

Conclusion: "If you are a child of God," said J. Vernon McGee, "you will be faithful. If you are married, you will be faithful to your husband or wife. If you are an employee, you are going to be faithful to your job and to your boss. If you are a church member, you are going to be faithful to your church. You are going to be faithful wherever you are and in whatever you do."
