Fellowship of Christian Athletes -
Greek = agape. Affection or benevolence. A love feast, or feast of charity.
Introduction: "The divine love is as a burning fire; in all its intensity and infinity it has but one object and but one joy, and that is the only-begotten Son. When we gather together all the attributes of God — His infinity, His perfection, His immensity, His majesty, His omnipotence — and consider them but as the rays of the glory of His love, we still fail in forming any conception of what that love must be. It is a love that passeth knowledge." — Andrew Murray
- What is your favorite song or hymn on love?
- Read Mark 12:28-31. Jesus spells out precisely what it takes to please him in two easy-to-understand concepts. How well are you obeying these two great commandments?
- Read I Corinthians 13:1-13. Why must faith and hope be content with the bronze and silver medal, so to speak, while love wins the gold?
- Read John 14:21. Which of the four references to love here makes the deepest impression on you? Why? Reflect on I John 3:16 for more practical insight into this character quality.
- How does your FCA Huddle reflect the love of God? How can your Huddle practically grow in the type of love that is so powerfully described here in the Bible?
Memory verse: "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight." — Philippians 1:9
Conclusion: "God’s nature is love. God can never function contrary to His own nature. Never in your life will God ever express His will toward you except that it is not an expression of perfect love. He can’t! He can never give you second best. His nature will not let Him. He will bring discipline, judgment, and wrath on those who continue in sin and rebellion. His disciplines, however, always are based on love (Hebrews 12:6)." — Henry T. Blackaby & Claude V. Kin
