Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I raise the needed funds?
A: Many FCA interns have great success by sending fundraising letters to friends and family. It’s also recommended to meet with the mission’s pastor at your local church to see if any funding is available. FCA can provide a template for the fundraising letter.

It is your responsibility to cover the cost of your trip prior to your departure date. This can be done through fundraising efforts, or you can cover the cost yourself. FCA is a non-profit 501(c)(3). As such, any funds raised towards your trip will be tax-deductible to the donor as long as checks are made payable to FCA. In the memo line, write ‘Impact 2010’. The donor will receive a receipt directly from FCA for tax purposes.

Monies raised will be the property of FCA. If, for any reason, the participant does not go on the trip, the balance will remain available for the participant for 1 year and may be applied towards a future trip. No refunds will be available after the trip.

April 20 - 50% of entire cost must be turned in to FCA.
May 10 – Final balance due.

Q: What is Forterocca?
A: Forterocca is a fully furnished retreat center where the Impact 2009 interns will spend almost four weeks. Located in the northwest of Italy (about 1 hour north of Turin), Forterocca sits in the center of a valley that has a special Christian heritage. Long before the Reformation swept Europe, a group of people called the Waldensians fled here to escape persecution. Their faithful commitment to study, preach and even translate the Bible into the language of the common people had brought down the wrath of the Church of Rome. For three centuries they lived in hiding.

Forterocca, which is surrounded by peaks once stained by the blood of the martyrs, will be the foundation for transformed lives and a revitalized witness in Italy and around the globe.

You will live in community with 30 other Christian athletes, sharing experiences that are new and challenging, building relationships that will last a lifetime and learning ministry skills that will prepare you to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

Q: What kind of training will I receive?
A: Topics to be covered include: Biblical Basis for Sports Ministry, Cultural Sensitivity, Evangelism, Sports Ministry Models and Teambuilding.

Q: What countries will the interns be from?
A: FCA is planning to take up to 20 interns from the USA who will be joined by 10 interns from other countries. English will be the primary language for this internship.

Q: Do I get to select my field to travel to for sports camps and clinics?
A: At the end of June, interns will be divided into teams and will travel to pre-selected fields. Fields will be selected by May at which point all accepted interns will be given the chance to indicate first and second preference for fields. We will do our best to accommodate these choices but cannot guarantee you will get your selected field.

Q: How much does this internship cost?
A: Impact cost is $4000. Interns must commit to raising the full amount which will cover travel, housing and food.

Q: Where do I fly into?
A: Either Milan or Turin, Italy. You will receive instructions before booking your flight.

Q: What should I pack?
A: FCA will provide a detailed packing list once selected.
